WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO PHOTOGRAPHY?
Honestly, when I was a little kid, bugs and flowers. I loved the detail and the way they looked in the light. However, what really pulled me to becoming a photographer was living with a child who has autism. He taught me to see things differently and appreciate them for more than their intended purpose. I loved to capture him as he existed and took in the world around them. That was my foundation, and now I hunt for that raw existence. Where is life without script or barriers, and how can I capture it? What can my lens see that others can’t? That’s why I love photography.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
Oh man, what don’t I love about being a wedding photographer? The entire journey is amazing- from your story before we ever even crossed paths, to celebrating your big day. That being said, my favorite thing, like I said earlier, is that raw existence. If you are getting married, your soul is exposed- and I can see it. I get to capture that.
PLEASE LIST YOUR CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE.
I learned photography by living with an incredible photographer. Of course she taught me all of the basics, and I took all sorts of classes, but she taught me how to really photograph. Her favorite piece of advice is, “find the story”, and she taught me to do that. I began my career as a landscape photographer, and then jumped into portraiture for a few years. I still photograph portraiture, but the majority of my career is spent photographing weddings, births, and kiddos with special needs.
WHAT IS YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL & WHY? OR IF YOU WERE ANY FLAVOR OF ICE-CREAM, WHAT FLAVOR WOULD YOU BE & WHY?
I think my spirit animal would be a combination of a dove, a jellyfish, and a bear. I ground myself through God, the never ending flow of water, and earth. I am flexible, but I know how to sand my ground. I think these animals represent that.
WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU WANT TO SAY ABOUT YOURSELF TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER THROUGH THE REMNANT COLLECTIVE?
Apart from being so drawn to your story, I also LOVE adventure. I want to experience as much as I can in this life, and learn as much as I can along the way. I want to really get to know who you are. Also, I have a dog that is part coyote (shh!) and she is my everything. I think that, as people, we all have something to contribute to this life. I hope that if you learn anything from me, it is love and light.
