She lives, trapped in an inescapable nightmare. Every time her eyes shut, the nightmare starts over. Every time she opens them, she is filled with a paralyzing fear caused by the flashbacks triggered by her everyday surroundings. Every minute that passes is another minute she spends wondering if she’d make it past the last minute.
She feels dirty, like she’ll never be clean again. Sitting alone wishing she could crawl out of her own skin. Constantly being overwhelmed with the unshakable feeling that she is filthy beyond restoration. Eternally trapped in a body that disgusts her.
She has been uncharacteristically filled with hatred and anger, for reasons she cannot seem to explain. Her feelings find their way out of her mouth and into the hearts of the ones she loves through sudden loud outbursts. It’s like she’s staring at her innocent, carefree self from the outside of her bedroom window, wondering if she’s still the same person she once was. It all feels so distant and detached.
She is one of many women who struggle with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) after becoming a victim of rape. PTSD is a form of mental illness that taunts women all over the world. The chances of a women developing PTSD after being sexually assaulted are between 50%-95%, and 84% of those women have experienced domestic violence in one form or another. If you or someone you love identifies with the feelings of this women, and needs someone who is willing to talk, and walk with you through it, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will direct you to a location for help near you.
With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, and the heart behind The Remnant Collective being to extend care to women in these situations and shine a light on their stories, we thought it only just that we participate in drawing attention to the very real role mental illness plays in so many lives. With every photography session booked through us, donations are given to help women in these situations. We believe every woman deserves to feel beautiful and valued. It is our desire to give hope to those who feel like all hope is lost and remind them that real, genuine love still exists. Together, we freely stretch our arms toward women in need, with compassion in our hearts, believing in full restoration, healing, and strength.
With lots of love,
The Remnant Collective Team
